A monumental gesso bust of the Juno Ludovisi, on a Neoclassical base, H 264 cm (incl base)
The original marble sculpture was greatly admired by Goethe, who bought a cast of it, soon after seeing it in Rome. The model made by Christian Daniel Rauch is still in the 'Goethehaus' in Weimar. The present gesso is made after the Juno Ludovisi owned by Goethe which was created in 1844. The shoulders are a later addition. On a recent Neoclassical base.
