Antwerp School, the butcher's apprentice at work, 17thC, oil on canvas

The work bears the signature 'David Teniers Junior, 16?6' to the left of the boy's skirt. The work should however more likely be placed in the circle of Antwerp masters Adriaen Van Utrecht (1599-1642), Willem Van Odekerken (ca. 1631-1677) or Christiaan Luyckx (1623-1657/77).


The work is presented in a richly carved Baroque giltwood frame.
205 x 175 cm. (80.7 x 68.9 in.), Frame: 237 x 196 cm. (93.3 x 77.1 in.)

    - large restored tear situated to the peacock's tail
    - restored tear to the left of the boy's head
    - restored tear to the centre top
    - restoration all over the edges
