Mary Magdalene holding her ointment jar, in the manner of the Antwerp 16thC School, oil on a cradled panel

The plaque on the frame attributes the work to the Bruges artist Lanceloot Blondeel (1495-1561).
50 x 38 cm. (19.6 x 14.9 in.), Frame: 65 x 52 cm. (25.5 x 20.4 in.)

  • Condition: - the panel possibly planed down and mounted on another cradled panel (visible on the photos of the sides of the panel)
    - the craddeling straitend the convex bended panel, causing a vertical netwerk of deep craquelé
    - largely overpainted
    - because of the excessive restoration, it is hard to evaluate and date the original work, which could be a 19thC copy
