Paul Van Hoeydonck (1925-2025), 'Gretchen im Wald', 1975-1982, mixed media, H 185 cm

'Deze interplanetaire wereld bevolkt Paul Van Hoeydonck met antropomorfe wezens die opnieuw, zoals in zijn vroegere schilderijen, refereren naar de sprookjeswereld. Er is een samensmelting van gevoelsens zoals agressiviteit en tederheid tot stand gekomen. Gretchen im Wald is hiervan een krachtig voorbeeld waarin een zekere afstotelijkheid aantrekkelijk wordt. Technisch zijn deze nieuwe werken het resultaat van assemblage- en montage virtuositeit gekoppeld aan draperen en zwachtelen met doeken en windsels gekleurd, verbrand en vernist.'
