A Japanese ivory netsuke of a boy with a shishi, Edo period (18thC), W 5,5 cm - 29,3g (+)

Katabori netsuke in the signature triangle shape of early pieces. In the 17th and 18th centuries, merchants cut their ivory into triangular cross-sections before selling it. Netsuke artists, wary of wasting any of the precious material, adapted their designs to this shape.
Slightly stained ivory with black stained engraving.
Himotoshi on the bottom: one large, one small.
