The sculpture depicts an old woman holding a lantern in one hand, and a basket with flowers in the other one, signed Seishin (possibly Ono No Komachi)

Provenance: from a private collection in Belgium. This item is included in the commissioned private catalogue, titled 'The Nibajama collection', item no. 118

(+) CITES certificate for commercial activities inside the EU, no. 2023/BE00320/CE

  • Condition: - Notwithstanding the fact that in our opinion the item is in fairly good condition, and also apart from the remarks below, the figure needs a severe check-up and restoration.
    - the lantern was broken near the hand and glued in a very clumsy way
    - the cord connection between the hand holding the lantern and the hand holding the knot is broken and missing
    - the basket of flowers should be restored and reglued to the hand. Maybe there is a part of the cord missing?
    - an unexplained strip of glue is seen on the left side of the clothing
