A Russian Kasanskaya icon, 19thC, 29,5 x 36 cm

In Russia, the type has remained very much associated with the Tsar dynasty, especially after the campaign against Napoleon (in 1812) and the reverence increased greatly, which is why many copies of this type were painted.

  • Condition: - traces of woodworm to the back
    - Some minor cracks and pigment loss
    - wear, stains and loss to the gold leaf nimbus, originally a (silver) Reza was attached
    - some overpaint to all over the icon, especially to the red veil, neck, chin and eyes of the Madonna
    - the bottom bar missing
    - Furthermore in our opinion in fine condition
