An exceptional set of four Restauration mahogany armchairs, by Caton Bertaud, ca. 1830, H 96 - W 63 cm

Each chair has a rectangular padded back and bow-fronted drop-in seat covered in yellow and red foliate silk centred by a flower vase, the curved top rail above with slightly out scrolled arms carved with acanthus and terminating in a lion's mask, above S-scroll arm supports and a plain seat-rail, on S-scroll legs headed by acanthus and terminating in scroll feet. Stamped 'BERTAUD RUE MESLAY N° 57', numbered 3 - 4 - 5 - 6.
