An exceptional Flemish Baroque ivory Madonna on the crescent moon, 17th/18thC, H 36 cm

An exceptional Flemish Baroque ivory sculpture of the Madonna holding the Holy Child, and standing on the crescent moon destroying the dragon as a symbol of evil, late 17thC - early 18thC, H 36 cm, presented on a metal stand, H 38 cm
The sculpture is carved in very fine quality, with the Madonna standing in an elegant contrapposto.

  • Condition: - the boll on which the Madonna stands, with several cracks to the ivory
    - a part of the tail of the dragon, twisted around the boll, broken and missing to the back
    - several horizontal cracks to the ivory, this is a usual phenomena of the aging of the ivory
    - furthermore, in our opinion, the sculpture is in good condition.
