What is a LIVE auction?

A live auction or hammer auction is an auction in the classical sense.
The auctioneer will offer each lot individually on the auction day (usually starting from 10 am).

Once a lot of your interest is called up by the auctioneer, you will be able to place a bid. After there are no more bids, the lot will be sold to the highest bidder.

The auction pace is usually 60-80 per hour, and we hold a break from 1 pm to 2 pm.

Example schedule:
Auction starts at 10 am
11 am: ca. Lot 60-80
12 pm: ca. Lot 120-160
1 pm: ca. 180-240

1 – 2 pm: Lunch break

3 pm: ca. 240-320
4 pm: ca. 300-400
5 pm: ca. 360-480
6 pm: ca. 420-560

What is a TIMED auction?

A timed auction runs for a defined period of time.
At the closing time, lots will begin to close independently at one-minute intervals.

As the auction progresses, you will have the opportunity to place bids at all times.
If we receive a bid within 3 minutes of closing time, the time to bid will be extended by 3 minutes to give an equal opportunity to all bidders.
A lot can be extended any number of times.

Timed auctions offer the comfort of bidding in confidence while ensuring every bidder has enough time to decide.

You can modify placed bids at all times (‘My Account’ – ‘My Bids’). Within 2 hours before the first lot of the sale closes, bids can no longer be retracted or reduced.

Example: Auction closing time 10 am

Lot 1 will close at 10.00 am (bids made after 9.55 am will extend bidding until 10.05 am)

Lot 2 will close at 10.01 am (bids made after 9.56 am will extend bidding until 10.06 am)

Lot 3 will close at 10.02 am (bids made after 9.57 am will extend bidding until 10.07 am)

Online (recommended)

It is possible to bid live online directly from your desktop, laptop, tablet or mobile device in all of our auctions.

Bidding online allows you to take part in realtime from all over the world. You have the full control over all your bids and do not have to reveal or determine your bids before the sale.

When bidding on a desktop or laptop, you will also be able to follow our live stream directly from the auction room.

Absentee Bids

When placing absentee bids, you can place your maximum bids before the sale. The auction house will then try and secure the item for you at the lowest possible price. Even if you are unavailable on the auction date, this is a great way to participate.

Telephone Bids

If you choose to bid by phone, we will call you on the auction days a couple of minutes before your lot comes up. Our telephone clerks will be acting as a liaison and place bids in your name. You will be bidding in realtime without the need to be at our auction.

Bidding in person

Due to COVID-19, we have decided that all auctions will be held purely live online; bidding at the auction house is not possible until further notice. Thank you for your understanding and stay safe.

When bidding online, you will be able to see all your bids under ‘My Account’ – ‘My Bids’.

When absentee bidding or requesting a telephone bid, we will manually process your results and send you a confirmation for each successful bid. Please allow up to 48h of processing time.

You will be able to find the sale results a couple of hours after the sale has concluded. Please note that results are only final once approved by the bailiff at the end of the auction. A bailiff is taking part in each of our auctions and is making sure all bids are correctly submitted.

If you have bid live online, you will be able to see your won items under ‘My Account’ – ‘My purchases’

Additionally, every winning bidder will receive an invoice by e-mail within 48h after the sale. Please also make sure to check your Spam-folder if you should not receive it.

Our auctions usually start at 10 am (local time) at lot 1 – for auctions with multiple days, please check the auction description to find out which lots will be sold on the consecutive days.

A break will be held between 1 pm and 2 pm (local time).

We expect the pace of the auction to be between 50 – 70 lots per hour. This is hugely influenced by the number of bids received during the sale.
