A 19thC, most probably German, bone hunting scenes decorated casket, H 21 - W 23 -D 18,2 cm / 1.970 g; added a 19thC Dieppe ivory plaque, 6,2 x 9,7 cm, 26 g

The whole is composed of various rich with hunting scenes basso-relievo cut bone slats. According to the original catalogue presumably Nürnberg; the plaque is decorated with a basso-relievo cut animated scene and on the back decorated with embroidery, given the label former collection of Achiel Van Acker, a former Belgian prime minister, on a brass stand.

Provenance: from a private collection in Belgium. This item is included in the commissioned private catalogue, titled 'The Nibajama collection', item no. 187 & 197

  • Condition: In total, in our opinion, the item is in a fairly good condition
    Some missing particles at the top edge of the front panel (invisible when closed)
    As usual, the sutures between the slats became visible due to the shrinkage, and inherent to the material
    The inner upholstering is of a later date
    The wooden bottom with quite some wormholes whether or not (clumsily) filled
