A commemorative oak silver-plated mounted wheelbarrow and shovel, H 44,5 - W 120 cm (the barrow) - H 107 cm

The wheelbarrow elaborately carved with engraved silver-plated mounts, the silver plaque of the wheelbarrow and shovel inscribed: 'Presented to Mrs Fletcher Norton by the Ambergate, Nottingham and Boston and Eastern Junction Railway, on the 19th February 1847, when assisted by his grace the Duke of Rutland, that lady cut the first sod of the line. Bottesford, in the County of Leicester.'

Maker's mark of 'Elkington & Co. Fecit, Birmingham'.

  • Condition: - Some usual wear to the wheelbarrow and shovel
    - negligible chips to the carved details of the handle of the shovel
    - furthermore, in our opinion, the items appear in good condition.
