A delicately shaped and sculpted unique Nap. III period neoclassical ivory mantle clock, H 50 - W 37,5 - D 23,5 cm / total weight ca 6900 g (+)

The porcelain dial, probably Sèvres, porcelain with the central part painted with a cupid and the time track in Roman numerals on a gilt decorated blue lapis ground and held by a gilt brass mount. The lower freeze is oil paint decorated as well with putti and floral garlands. The clock is set on an equally ivory plinth with gothic-inspired decoration.

The movement is marked 'S. Marti & Cie - Medaille de Bronze' and 'Chameroy - 178'.
S. Marti was a renowned clockmaker in the second half of the 19th century. The firm obtained its bronze medal at the Paris exposition of 1860. During the 1860s the company collaborated with various celebrated French clockmakers a.o. Roux and Japy Frères. Chameroy was a 19th-century Paris XIX arr. clockmaker.
As a result of all elements, we can state that the item is of probably French (Paris) origin.
With a plexiglass dome on a black plexiglass base

  • Condition: Apart from the remarks below, the item, in our opinion, is in fairly good condition.
As the item is a very rare species of artistic skill one should expect a signature, which in our opinion is not the case as far as we can see
The functioning of the item wasn't checked but, in an assay, to wind the mechanism there was a normal slight resistance which in our opinion means that the spiral springs are in good condition.
The cover of the top vase can be lifted and functions as a storage space for the key.
The top vase originally had two decorative elements which are now missing (one still available).
The ornament of the right grip of the vase fell loose but is available; note that it already was restored.
Due to the working of the material, all elements of both the frieze below and the base of the clock slightly shrunk with some lacunas where they meet as a result. This, however, does not interfere with the aesthetic appearance.
Some minor and negligible cracks in various places.
No or hardly any damage to the painted decoration on the frieze below. Only some slight exfoliation to the blue fillet.
