A fine Renaissance tortoiseshell and silver-mounted travel cabinet, 17thC, H 43 - W 42 - D 27 cm

The front doors enclose another central door, decorated with a hand-painted panel depicting 'Susanna and the Elders', flanked by two columns. The silver mounts are all over decorated with floral motifs.

Possibly of (Indo-)Portuguese origin.

The silver mounts with no visible hallmarks but tested on silver purity.

  • Condition: - the central lock of the front doors renewed
    - the central front handle not original
    - the lock of the inside door missing
    - wear, cracks and missing pieces all over the tortoiseshell
    - the front doors with damaged silver mounts to the inside
    - wear all over the item
    - some scratches to the pigment layer of the painted scene
    - upholstery to the inside damaged
    - the hinges of the top door not original
    - furthermore, the item appears in our opinion in acceptable to good condition.
