A Japanese ivory netsuke of the sennin Kinko riding a carp, signed Hidemasa or Hidetada, Edo/Meiji period (19thC), H 6 cm - W 4,5 cm - D 2,2 cm - 43g (+)

The Taoist immortal Kinko is said to have been fond of fish, and to have passed his days making paintings of them. On his 200th birthday, a great carp appeared which took Kinko on a sightseeing tour of the waterways. He returned carrying a Buddhist scroll exhorting humankind to refrain from harming fish.

Black stained engraving and himotoshi on the bottom and back, one large and one small.
