A Japanese Meiji-period ivory okimono, H 31 cm - weight c. 1.940 g.

Depicting various men playing (fighting?) with two dragons, black stained engraving, signed

  • Condition: - apart from the remarks below, the item in our opinion in an acceptable, be it not perfect condition
    - the usual minor cracks inherent to the material
    - composed, as most of the genuine Meiji-period okimono, out of various parts
    - the top figure: a part of one of the hands broken and missing; an instrument/tool missing in the other hand
    - the figure standing on two other men: misses probably the end of the rope that is broken and partly missing and held by the left supporting man
    - the right supporting man: missing one hand
    - the figure central of the supporting men: missing his left hand
    - the figure at the back of one of the dragons: missing an instrument/tool
    - the left figure in front: an instrument/tool broken and missing
    - the kneeling man in front: missing his right hand
    - the connections of the various parts became visible due to the working of the material
    - one of the horns of the lower dragon broken (the top) and missing
    - a possibility that the eyes of the dragons were inlaid with another material, now missing
    - though the item has been thoroughly checked by us on flaws and damage there is nevertheless always a possibility that we, due to the complicated construction, have overlooked some damage or a missing part
