A Japanese Chosen Karatsu ware sake bottle, presumably Edo period, H 26,8 cm

Karatsu ware, also known as Karatsu-yaki, is a type of Japanese ceramic that is mainly produced in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture. One of the sub-types of Karatsu ware is known as Chosen or Korean Karatsu, as it was introduced by Korean potters. The Chosen Karatsu style uses both black and white yuyaku sectionally, which creates a stunning contrasting border.

  • Condition: The bottle appears overall in good condition, except for a small old darkened frit/rubbing at the top rim.
