A most probably 17thC Southern Netherlands ivory Corpus Christi, H corpus 20,5 cm - total H (with shrine) 76 cm (+)

Mounted in a very finely sculpted early 20thC Gothic Revival walnut shrine
Total weight 1145 g (shrine incl.)

(+) CITES certificate for commercial activities inside the EU, no. 2023/BE00881/CE

  • Condition: - the cross-shaped top of the shrine's front was broken and fixed (in a rather clumsy way)
    - due to the fact that both the parts were not born as a set and were 'married' on a later date, the shrine doors don't close in a correct way
    - the nose is slightly damaged
    - arms of the corpus should be fixed anew in a better way
    - the right leg and the left underleg were sculpted in separate parts of ivory and then adjusted to the corps. Maybe the left underleg should be fixed in a better way
    - in total, in our opinion, the item is in a fairly good condition
    - (in our opinion it was safer not to detach the corpus so as not to damage the sculpture. Therefore is we couldn't check whether there is a signature or not)
