A pair of 17thC Limoges enamel candlesticks, H 23 cm (+)

A pair of 17thC 'à la financière' Limoges painted enamel candlesticks, in grisaille and flesh tones on copper, with gilt details, each depicting a different angel balancing on the globe, the sides showing scenes out of the fable of the raven and the fox, and the fable of the heron and the fish, both by Jean de la Fontaine, the whole surrounded by renaissance scrollwork and playfully decorated with grotesques, satyrs, griffons and foliage, ca. 1680, H 23 cm

  • Condition: Both candlesticks are assembled in three parts
    Quite some pieces of the enamel all over missing
    Quite some restorations all over, mainly to both drip trays, and to the four corners of the base of one of the candlesticks
