A pair of Chinese blue and white 'Townscape' baluster vases and covers, Qianlong/Jiaqing period, Total H 48 cm

A pair of Chinese blue and white baluster vases and covers, decorated with a continuous scene depicting figures in a town, the shoulder decorated with a lappet of lotus blossom in ruyi-head, Qianlong/Jiaqing period, late 18thC/19thC, Total H 48 cm

  • Condition: One cover:
    - loose finial (still available)
    - chipped glaze to the rim
    - firing tears to the underside of the cover

    One vase appears overall in good condition, except for:
    - chipped glaze/rough edge to the top rim
    - a vague and shallow horizontal crack to the inside top rim
    - patches of glaze impurities at the shoulder occurred during the baking process: ashes in the glaze during baking

    The other cover appears overall in good condition, except for:
    - a cut and related flat chip to the rim
    - baking flaw all over the cover

    The other vase:
    - a tight hairline crack at the top rim, ~3,5 cm
    - burst glaze bubbles at the top rim
    Otherwise, no further remarks.
