A pair of Japanese Meiji period superbly alto relievo sculpted ivory vases, H 34,4 / 34,6 cm - 2328 / 2794 g (+)

Decorated with extremely animated street scenes in which all aspects of everyday life of Japanese society are represented. According to the author of the Nibayama catalogue, they are presumably signed Shakudon? / Harushige?
Both pieces stand on a matching sculpted wooden pedestal, H 31 – 33,3 cm.
