A rare shippo urushi 'tree bark' lacquered box, with bird among branches decor and fine butterfly decoration on the inside boxes, Meiji-Taisho period (early 20thC), L 24,5 cm - D 19 cm - H 8 cm

Also called 'cold cloisonné', the technique was mostly (but still rarely) applied to porcelain to give the appearance of a tree bark surface, the decoration with warm, muted tones of green, orange and brown.

  • Condition: Some scuffs and traces of wear, one of the smaller inside boxes with part of an edge missing. Furthermore, in our opinion, the item is in good condition.
