A rare vintage model 5066 table lamp by Paavo Tynell for 'Oy Taito Ab', 1940s, H 42 cm

Marked to the bottom 'Oy Taito Ab'.

Paavo Tynell (1890-1973) was born in Finland and started to work as a tin smith and from there onwards became a blacksmith. From this trade he slowly came into the craft of making and designing lamp. He was co-founder of Taito ab, a lamp manufacturer. A turning point for Tynell's career came when he started to collaborate with Finland House in New York, a gallery that promoted Finnish design in New York. His designs were drastically different from those of all American designers and became very popular, thus resulting in large experimental works that Tynell is now famous for. Tynell's designs are characterized by organic forms and the use of perforated brass.

  • Condition: - the textile of the shade with perforations and damages
    - the wiring renewed
    - the functioning wasn't tested
    - some usual wear but overall in good vintage condition.
