A so-called ‘Poupée de Malines', a polychrome painted limewood Virgin and Child, 16thC, Mechelen - Southern Netherlands (Belgium), total H 31,2 cm (+)

The child is holding a book. On a later elm wood base. Malinois dolls were mainly used for private devotion in home chapels or the cells of the religious.
Provenance: from a former Barcelona collection

  • Condition: With, in our opinion, its original gilding and polychrome paint.
    The left hand of the Virgin is missing.
    Some negligible wear all over.
    Some restoration to the blue paint.
