A Transat chair by Eileen Gray for Ecart, France, '70s edition, H 75 - W 55 - D 108 cm

A 1970 version, a black lackered beechwood frame chair with an adjustable headrest upholstered in black leather, handmade with a complex joining system.

Eileen Grey, an Irish-born designer, became one of the most inspiring modernist designers of the 20th century. The chair was specifially designed for the balcony of her home in the Côte d'Azur in France. The Transat or Fauteuil Transatlantique was inspired by the 1920' transatlantic crossings by steamers with millions of Europeans and Brits.

  • Staat: - some slight wear and traces of use to the armrests
    - furthermore, the chair appears in our opinion in good vintage condition.
