An exceptional pair of 15thC probably Venetian Renaissance pendant paintings

An exceptional pair of 15thC probably Venetian Renaissance pendant paintings with scenes of the life of Saint Paul, the first one depicting the conversion of Saint Paul, the other one depicting the stoning of Saint Stephen in Lystra, the second work with an inscription to the left lower corner 'Georgio Margast(ido) Cidonia', tempera on pine panels, 45 x 51,5 cm - in two gilt-decorated typical Venetian Renaissance-style frames, decorated with basso-relievo composite palmettes, griffons and acanthus leaves, and flanked by two pillars with on top Corinthian capitals, probably 18th/19thC, 70,5 x 82 cm

  • Condition: THE CONVERSION OF SAINT PAUL:
    - a large damaged spot to the left side of the painting (left of the armpit of the most left person): loss of pigment and grounding (the wooden panel visible)
    - two large horizontal cracks to the panel:
-- the upper crack strengthened with wooden blocks. The crack also damaging the paint layer, with a lot of overpaint as a cause
-- the lower crack causing a bending of the painting. This deformation of the wooden panel causes all over this horizontal region loosening of the paint and logically severe restoration and overpaint.
-- there are traces visible of two vertical bars to prevent the panel of bending. These have been removed, as they can cause the panel to crack.
    - traces of woodworm to the back of the panel
    - overpaint:
-- the left and right lower corner completely overpainted
-- all edges of the work, most prominent to the top edge
-- the sky and clouds severely overpainted: the left side almost completely overpainted
-- the mountains to the left
-- overpainted spots to the heads in the crowd
-- the left figure completely overpainted
-- Saint Paul: the legs completely overpainted, also overpaint to the body and hair
-- the prancing horse (with the red veil) overpainted
    - the words coming from God damaged and hardly readable
    - the frame:
-- the corniche with a large chip to the right side of the left capital
-- the right capital with a chip
-- some smaller chips and restoration all over the gilt of the frame

THE STONING OF SAINT STEPHAN IN LYSTRA:
    - a large horizontal crack to the higher part of the panel: strengthened with wooden blocks to the back. A lot of overpaint all over this horizontal region to the front (crowd to the left, trees, building to the right, two horseback riding figures to the right)
    - underneath the large crack of the panel: two smaller cracks to the lower area of the painting. Causing damage to the paint layer and restoration and overpaint all over this area
    - overpaint:
    -- the edges
-- the left and right lower corner, the left corner almost completely overpainted
-- Saint Paul: clothing and head almost completely overpainted
-- the lower area (+- 10 cm of the lower edge) strongly overpainted
-- the man grabbing the hair of Saint Paul strongly overpainted
-- the man holding the stone above his head: overpaint to the hair and arm
-- the dancing Jew: overpaint to the face and hair (the figure right of him completely overpainted)
-- the other heads of the crowd with quite a lot of overpaint
-- overpaint all over the sky
    - the frame:
-- the left capital with a chip to the right top side
-- restoration to the left top corner
-- some smaller chips and restoration all over the gilt of the frame
    - both works painted on very thick pine panels: +- 2 cm
    - both works could use a professional check-up and cleaning of the varnish
