An impressive Chinese Pao Tao 'One Hundred Birds' large rug, depicting a large phoenix and crane amongst flower branches at the centre of the rug, set in a mountainous river landscape with mandarin ducks dabbling in water, a large tree with other birds perched on its branches, and rockwork where a rooster and chicks are picking grass, Pao Tao rugs were made primarily in the 19th and early 20th centuries for both domestic and monastic use, in the Chinese city Baotao, late 19thC, 179 x 316 cm

  • Condition: In an overall acceptable appearance, except for:
    - the shortened upper and lower rim
    - one or two lighter/faded spots here and there
