Admiral Jean Baptiste du Casse (1646-1715) was a French privateer, admiral, and colonial administrator who served throughout the Atlantic World during the 17th and 18th centuries. He started his career in the French merchant marine and served in the East India Company and the slave-trading Compagnie du Sénégal. Later he joined the French Navy and played an important role during the War of the Spanish Succession and the War of the League of Augsburg.

Presented in an 18thC richly decorated giltwood frame, 94 x 125 cm

  • Condition: - relined and restored
    - several restored and retouched damages to the background
    - surface dirt, could use cleaning
    - the clothing and flesh tones appear in quite good and original condition.
    - some wear and chips to the ornaments of the frame, but the frame in overall appears in fair condition
