The original gold chain medallion belonging to US President Grover Cleveland (1837-1908), bearing the portraits of his children, 1895, total weight: 52 g (total)

Grover Cleveland was the 22nd and 24th president of the United States of America. In 1885, he entered the White House as a bachelor; one year later, he married 21-year-old Frances Folsom at the White House. He is the only president to be married in the White House, and Frances is the youngest First Lady ever. In 1889, Cleveland left the White House after losing the election to Benjamin Harrison. On October 3, 1891, the first child was born, Baby Ruth. A year later, Cleveland won the presidential election and was entitled to return to the White House in 1893, where his daughter Esther was born on September 9. Esther Cleveland is to date the only child of an American president born in the White House. Ruth died of diphtheria at the age of only 12, which makes the medallion a very prized possession for Grover. There are several photographs of the president wearing the locket necklace.

The medaillon bears on one side the initials 'GC', and on the back the text: 'From Ruth and Esther, 1895'.
