The Prince of Wales, today's King Charles III of the United Kingdom, was a gifted polo player and was ranked among the top 25 players in the world in his peak years.
On June 6 1981, he and his Maple Leafs team, consisting of I.W. Galen-Weston, M. Brown, and Devcich, won the Cordonniu Cup. British-Canadian billionaire Galen-Weston owned the Maple Leafs. The Wembley match was played on the polo ground of Smith's Lawn in Windsor Great Park, home of the Guards Polo Club and founded by Charles's father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
