According to an attached excerpt from an auction catalogue, the flatware was in use by emperor Napoleon I at Longwood. The relics were brought to England by Thomas Harrington (a Longwood resident), who acquired them after the emperor's death.
According to the depositor, they were recently part of the former collection of Mrs S. F. We attach the catalogue excerpt.
