Two Japanese Meiji period ivory okimono, H 9,3 - 12,7 cm / 229g - 233 g (+)

The first one depicts an animated family scene, signed Shinsai, standing on a wooden base; the second one shows a whelks merchant accompanied by his son, signed Muneyuki.

Provenance: from a private collection in Belgium. This item is included in the commissioned private catalogue, titled 'The Nibajama collection', items no. 165 & 107

  • Condition: Both items are, apart from the remarks below, in fairly good to good condition.
    The whelks merchant: in our opinion, a knife in one and a whelk in the other boy's hand are missing
