A Japanese ivory okimono of a Rakan, Meiji period, H 36 cm - 1955 g (+)

The Rakan is possibly Handaka Sonja, holding a lotus flower and accompanied by a dragon, black stained engraving, signed Ikeda So and Hokosai Shigetoshi.

Provenance: from a private collection in Belgium. This item is included in the commissioned private catalogue, titled 'The Nibajama collection', item no. 19

(+) CITES certificate for commercial activities inside the EU, no. 2022/BE04312/CE

  • Condition: Traces of the nerve tract on the back of the figure and at the same spot some chips missing
The right hand was broken and glued
At the tail of the dragon there seem to be some inlaid scales (probably to mask a little damage). One of the scales missing; one of the whiskers with a broken and missing top. The top of one horn is restored.
Some totally negligible cracks inherent to the material.
In our opinion, the item is in good condition
